Cylindrical leather chest

Cylindrical leather chest with lid. The chest has been used during the Lofoten fishery.

Fittings, hinges and locks in iron, with key added. Extra flap with leather covers lock on front, and handles on sides. The leather on the outside of the coffin has been repaired in several places, by sewing new pieces of leather over holes.

The coffin is a is part of the collection of Vesterålsmuseet/Melbo Manor, and is part of a larger collection of objects, textiles and archives donated to the museum by the descendants of the Bruun family who buildt their fortune trading on Børøya in Hadsel from the second half of the 1700s.
