The smallest of the Hurtigruten Museum’s ship models lives in a small display case that is only 19 cm long and 4.5 cm high.
The coastal express ship MS Midnatsol was handed over from the Fosen mechanical workshop to the shipping company Troms Fylkes Dampskibsselskap in 2003.
As many as four ships in coastal express traffic have carried the name Midnatsol. The first was the steamship Midnatsol built for Bergenske Dampskibsselskab in 1910. BDS sailed two ships with the name, before TFDS got its first MS Midnatsol in 1982, and finally the ship modelled here.
In 2021, the last generation of Midnatsol from 2003 was converted to cruise traffic and was given the new, but also traditional ship name, MS Maud, after the Norwegian queen of the same name.
