The chief and the housewife welcome you to a feast in the Chieftain's House.

Remember to pre-order the products you want to use. If the group is 15 or more people, we can grant a group discount on entrance tickets. If the group is less than 15 people, we can still receive you on the same terms as groups by paying a minimum fee (equivalent to payment for 15 people).

Groups that pre-book are met by a host/guide on arrival and get an introduction to the history up in our beautiful longhouse, before the group members have the opportunity to explore the museum on their own.

Guiding

For groups, we offer short guided tours in the Chieftain’s House. In the exhibitions and the film, information is provided through modern audio guides and smartphones (available in German, English, French, Norwegian, Spanish, and Italian).

Guests are kindly asked to bring their own smartphone and headphones if possible, to ensure the easiest use of the audio guide system. Using your phone does not incur any additional costs, as free Wi-Fi is available throughout the site.

Food & drink

Tasty food and flickering light from oil lamps. The scent of tar and open fire, beautiful decorations, and—most importantly—the knowledge that you are on historically significant ground create a perfect setting for a meal experience. The food is prepared using Viking ingredients and served in the Viking way. In the Chieftain’s House, both your senses and your appetite can be satisfied.

Choose from various menus. We serve meals in the Chieftain’s House, either in the grand feast hall or the more intimate residential area. Depending on the menu, we can accommodate groups of up to 160 people. The feast hall seats approximately 90–100 guests, while the residential area seats around 50. Meals are served by Vikings in authentic, traditional costumes.

We also tailor events for small groups, including customized activities, guides, and meals.

Example of a package offer

An example of a package for your group could be a guided tour + mead and stockfish.

Alongside a tour of the museum, we are happy to serve a small glass of the gods’ festive drink, the golden mead, together with stockfish from Lofoten. Stockfish was an important provision and trade item for the Vikings, making this combination the perfect little taste of the Viking Age.

Activities

Add extra experiences during your group visit. For an extended period in the summer, there are many additional activities available, such as rowing, horse riding for children, axe throwing, and more.

To secure a spot, activities must be booked in advance. The organizer pays for the group’s specific activities or arrangements. We tailor the program to suit you and your group. Based on the time you have available, the season, and the group size, we provide suggestions—whether your group is large or small.

Add-ons to the experience

During meals, our Vikings often perform songs and music from the late Viking Age/early Middle Ages, but it is also possible to book additional entertainment for your group.

The chieftain can participate as host, leading the event and sharing stories about his life together with the chieftain’s wife and the rest of the people at Borg. This is available year-round and can be arranged for a duration as agreed.
Price: from 3,000 NOK

Singing and dancing is already included in some of our meals, but can also be booked additionally for other arrangements. This may involve Vikings inviting guests to dance and performing a ring dance around the fire, which everyone can join. This is available year-round and lasts approximately 15–20 minutes.
Price: Up to 30 people – 2,500 NOK (Additional 1,500 NOK for 31–90 people)
