Nominee for EMYA in 2025

The Hurtigruten Museum was nominated for the European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA) in 2025.

EMYA is an award that is awarded annually by the Council of Europe’s museum organization, the European Museum Forum. This is a prestigious award, and the Hurtigruten Museum and Museum Nord are very proud to have been nominated for the award.

Nominated for Museum of the Year 2024

“A freighter, a retired Hurtigruten and the story of an archipelago in the Arctic have been nominated for the honorary award Museum of the Year.?”

This is what Sigrid Stenerud Steien writes12. April 2024 on the Norwegian Museum Association’s website. The Hurtigruten Museum in Stokmarknes, the Jekte Trade Museum in Bodø and the Svalbard Museum in Longyearbyen – these were the nominees for the award.

“The three museums each tell a fascinating part of Norwegian maritime history, which together provide a picture of how Norway is bound together. Both the jekta Anna Karoline and the Hurtigruten ship Finnmarken are tangible proof of the importance of mastering the coast and the sea. For centuries, the stretch was Bergen ? Kirkenes the only national road between north and south in Norway.? For the import and export of goods, people and mail. Trade?stimulated hunting, gathering and fishing, developed?industries, settlements and all what we today call a coastal culture that literally arose in the wake of a?robust?small cargo ship and a relatively modest Hurtigruten.?” (Sigrid Stenerud Steien, Norwegian Museum Association)

In the end, it was the Jektefartsmuseet in Bodø that was awarded this coveted award – congratulations!

Å være ett av tre nominerte museer til en høythengende pris er en prestasjon i seg selv.
