Our exhibitions focus on the author and fairy tale queen Regine Normann (1867-1939), and northern Norwegian coastal culture. With this, a common thread is created through the visit to us, in addition to a new traveling exhibition in the living rooms that is developed every summer. The beautiful buildings that house the museum were once the municipality’s sheriff’s office, and today offer history, shops and restaurants.
Experiences
Vispen-An exhibition about the Romani people, the Poop Portal to the past and the Fairytale Forest are some of the experiences you can look forward to. Also visit the kitchen and sunroom with old objects from Bø. In the blue outhouse we have a carpenter’s shed and shoemaker’s workshop, and in the fisherman’s cabin you will find Lofotkista and old fishing gear. Finally, you can take a trip to the boathouse where the Nordland boats are parked.
The old sheriff’s office has become a museum shop and café. There we can offer coffee and ice cream, books and toys, as well as locally produced handicrafts.
Outdoors in the museum area, you can also visit the Artscape Nordland open-air gallery, the sculptures The Man from the Sea by Kjell Erik Killi Olsen and Christin Løkke’s Rowed Fishing.
