One of our skilled colleagues has applied for admission to a PhD study at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway. Subject to this being in order, from 1st July we will have a vacant temporary position as conservator/dissemination manager at the Lofotr Viking Museum.

The duration of the temporary office is three years, and we want immediate accession.

The position is responsible for the museum’s collections and dissemination activities. There is also a responsibility for archaeological finds on display under an escrow agreement with Tromsø Museum.

Work tasks are related to professional quality assurance of the information provided, and the impression the public is left with after the visit. An important task is contributions to the further development of dissemination at the museum – including live dissemination, exhibitions and signage.

It is also relevant to participate in networking work in Museum Nord.

The person we are seeking must like to work in teams with others, and the position requires interest in disciplines such as tourism/customer understanding and design. The conservator reports to the department director in West Lofoten.

The applicant must have a university exam of a higher degree in archaeology/history or equivalent subject areas. Specialisation within the Viking Age/Middle Ages era will be emphasized. The applicant should have experience in collecting/preserving and dissemination work and must master English orally and in writing. Knowledge of Northern Norwegian cultural history is desirable.

We can promise you an independent and demanding task in an active and knowledgeable working environment with great expertise in museum operations. The position is remunerated in ltr. 56 – 60 according to Virke’s salary table, currently NOK 507,600 – 543,500 per year. Museum Nord is connected to one of norway’s best pension schemes in KLP.
