Ancient Animals In The Wild

Craftsmen

In summer, Lofotr Viking Museum has several craftsmen at work in the Chieftain’s House. Meet the wood carver, our textile workers, the shoe- and leatherworker, and learn about their crafts.

The Espolin Gallery

Master of Norwegian art. Immerse yourself in artist Kaare Espolin Johnson’s expressive power and explore the life and destiny of coastal people.

Thor Erdahl Imprint 1971–2021

In the exhibition shown at Galleri Espolin, Thor presents a selection of images from his graphic production over fifty years.

Lofoten War Memorial Museum

The largest exhibition of rare uniforms and artifacts from World War II in Norway. Unique historic snapshots. Personal and engaging.

Lofoten Museum

Get to know the history of the Lofoten fisheries at one of the best-preserved manor houses in the region, with authentic fishermans cabins, traditional wooden boats and a historic garden.

Lofoten Aquarium

An encounter with life in the Lofoten Sea. Cod, halibut, crabs, saithe and haddock – these and many more you will meet in the aquarium. Feeding seals and otters at fixed times. Café.

At the Lofoten Aquarium we have a viewing facility for Norwegian aquaculture.

Fish from Lofoten

At Lofotakvariet you will see both large and small animals found in our sea areas.

Skaftnes Farm

The farm consists of a farmhouse, barn, dock and boathouse. The buildings are open to visitors and a skilled guide is available. Learn about fishermen and farmers who lived between the sea and a somewhat barren soil around 1900–1940.

Gammelbutikken – Gifts & useful things

A new sweater, a practical southwest or a bag of tea from Lofoten? In Gammelbutikken (open all year) and suvenirbutikken (summer open) by the parking lot, the selection is large and exciting for most people.

Norwegian Fishing Village Museum

One of Norway’s best preserved and complete fishing villages. Visit various buildings; including boathouse, cod liver oil factory, husmansstua. Main theme: life in the fishing village 1840–1960 and the development of the Lofoten fishery over the past 250 years. Shop and summer café.

Lofotr Viking Museum

Meet the Vikings. Smell the tar, taste the food, feel the history. The Vikings have been awaiting you for more than 1000 years. Welcome to the Viking age.

Exhibition opening at the Espolin gallery

The artist Thor Erdahl is this summer’s guest exhibitor at the Espolin Gallery! Welcome to the exhibition opening on Saturday 26 June at 14.00.

The Museum Café

Delicious baked goods, fresh, from the old stone oven. Fill your stomach with goodies as the senses take in the story in the fishing village at the end of the road.

The Service House: Gifts & Service

The service house is located by the large parking lot (drive through the tunnel on arrival at Å). In summer, you can buy a museum ticket here and get information about the museum and bakery. You can also buy various gifts and souvenirs (clothes, books, postcards, etc.) in the fine store.
In the building you will find public toilets, which are open all year round.

Lofotr Viking Festival 3–7 August 2022

On 3–7 August 2022, the annual Viking Festival is finally held at the Lofotr Viking Museum again. This year’s theme is trade and cultural exchange, and there are Vikings from many countries coming to Borg in Lofoten.

Agreement on SKREI centre signed

Museum Nord and LPO Arkitekter have entered into an agreement for the design of the SKREI centre outside Kabelvåg in Lofoten. Thus, the work on the national centre for cod fishing is a big step closer to the planned opening in 2026.
