Joint meeting of the museums in Nordland

From 21 to 22 September, Helgeland Museum, Nordland Museum and Museum Nord gathered for the annual joint meeting of the museums in Nordland. New this year is that the Árran Julevsáme guovdásj/Lule Sami Center, the Norwegian Aviation Museum and the Narvik Centre also participated.

Viking Festival 2024

The festival is an annual experience, with live presentation of the history of the Viking Age.
The festival this year is from August 8th – August 11th and the theme is crafts and traditions.

Wild boar piglets born on Lofotr!

Last week we received some happy news that 7 little wild boar piglets have been born! Now we just have to wait until the summer so that everyone can see them in the enclosure by the long house.

Nordland Seminar 2023

On 15 and 16 March, the Nordland Seminar 2023 took place in Hamarøy. This year’s organizers were Nordlandsmuseet in collaboration with Árran – Julevsáme guovdásj / Lule Sami Center. The seminar was divided in two, with the first day at Árran on Drag, and day two at the Hamsun Centre at Presteid.

Ancient Animals In The Wild

Discover ancient animal species in their natural habitat. Wild boar, wild sheep, Nordland type horses and Nordland type cows enjoying life around the Chieftain’s House.

Skaftnes Farm

The farm consists of a farmhouse, barn, dock and boathouse. The buildings are open to visitors and a skilled guide is available. Learn about fishermen and farmers who lived between the sea and a somewhat barren soil around 1900–1940.

many new records in 2023!

With 119,162 visitors to Lofotr Viking Museum, all visitor records were broken in 2023. The summer season was already very positive, and many tourists came to Borg to visit the museum from all over the world. Although it was expected to exceed the visitor count from 2019, namely 104,614, at the end of the year the number of visitors still far exceeded expectations.

NEW EXHIBITION OPENS 2 MARCH

Exhibition “From Shadows to Beacons” at the Espolin Gallery. Nine artists are showing exciting works inspired by the 200th anniversary of invention Fresnel’s lighthouse lens in 2023. The exhibition is arranged by Kystverkmusea-The Museums og the Norwegian Coastal Administration and produced by the North Cape Museum.

Eddie – THE otter

Eddie was born somewhere on Sotra outside Bergen, most likely in late summer 2022.

She was found after her mother was hit and taken home to a family in Sotra. She stayed there for several months before taking the long flight up to us at the Lofoten Aquarium at the end of January 2023.

The Norwegian Coastal Administration Museum’s summer cruise 2023

Throughout the month of June, the Norwegian Coastal Administration Museum has carried out this year’s summer cruise with the museum ship MS Gamle Oksøy. The cruise has sailed along almost the entire Norwegian coast from Kristiansand to Gamvik, and back to Kristiansand, where Gamle Oksøy has its home port.
