Melbo Manor

From quiet farm to a small industrialized city within a few decades (1890–1920). The businessman and landowner Chr. Frederiksen was in the center of the activities. Visit the mansion that has been restored to it´s former glory.

Seabed Exhibition

Seabed talks about the importance of the sea in the north, the vulnerable ecosystem in the ocean and the consequences of marine litter and pollution that are the subject of the exhibition.

HURTIGRUTEN MUSEUM OPENS ON 28 AUGUST

Culture Minister Abid Raja makes the official opening of the new Hurtigruten Museum at Stokmarknes. The opening takes place on Saturday 28 August at 14.00.

Oil fence turns 50

Norwegian oil spill protection celebrates 50 years. The Museum of the Norwegian Costal Administration marks this with sailing along the Norwegian coast this summer. On 21 June the boat Gamle Oksøy visits Sortland.

Nordland Seminar 2023

On 15 and 16 March, the Nordland Seminar 2023 took place in Hamarøy. This year’s organizers were Nordlandsmuseet in collaboration with Árran – Julevsáme guovdásj / Lule Sami Center. The seminar was divided in two, with the first day at Árran on Drag, and day two at the Hamsun Centre at Presteid.

Tore Inge Remme was the last priest in Øksnes to wear a clerical ruff in his office as a priest in the 1970s. This ruff was worn by him.

Gaiadrøv: The Sheep’s Turn to Shine

The collaboration that unites museums, the media production industry, the agricultural industry and large R&D communities has been named GaiaDrøv. GaiaDrøv is a dissemination concept and a traveling exhibition about the importance of sheep in Arctic regions, focusing on Vesterålen and Northern Norway.

The simple, but beautiful sailor’s cap made from wadmol. Used by a sailor from 1977 to 1981 as a sailor on board MS Ragnvald Jarl .

SS Finmarken’s two ship’s bells

Why did the SS Finmarken keep two ship’s bells? The bells are used to mark arrivals and departures, and can be used in emergency situations.

Do you like playing cards? In the collection at Melbo Manor we have a deck of playing cards from the 1790s. The cards are hand-painted with the help of stencils.

Allocation to technical and industrial heritage sites

The County Council has allocated NOK 2 750 000 to technical and industrial cultural monuments and sites in Nordland. The grant goes to Neptun Herring Oil Factory and Fagerli’s old power station.
