Målfrid the otter

An otter cub was found abandoned in Henningvær one day in July 2023. It was transported to the Lofoten Aquarium where it now lives life in luxury.

Agreement on SKREI centre signed

Museum Nord and LPO Arkitekter have entered into an agreement for the design of the SKREI centre outside Kabelvåg in Lofoten. Thus, the work on the national centre for cod fishing is a big step closer to the planned opening in 2026.

A hero’s saga at sea

The Norwegian lifeboats have a saw and nimbus that is respected. For over 100 years, they have assisted casualties, gone out to sea when others struggled to get to shore, braved storms and storms to save others.

Hurtigruten in the war

During World War II, the Hurtigruten route became a war zone where many Vesterålings were also affected. At the same time, the population along the coast was even more dependent than before on Hurtigruten for freight and necessary travel. As many as fourteen Hurtigruten ships were sunk in the period 1940-45, in addition to three “replacement express routes.

Landscape architects and basic tests of the ground

There are many tasks to be solved before SKREI can open in 2026. Among these is landscape planning – i.e. what the landscape around SKREI and now especially the Otolith should look like. What can we preserve of trees, rocks and landscape formations? Landscape architects and sample excavation are important tools.

Factory ship Hamburg

There are still many memories of the war. The Hamburg factory ship was a pioneer project and the world’s most modern ship for processing fish in the winter of 1941.
