Melbo Manor at Sommer-Melbu

28 June 2026

This year it is a full 40 years since the very first Summer Melbu took place, and over the years it has become something many people organize their entire summer around. “No that’s during Summer Melbu!” they’ll say, if someone suggests a weekend trip to London, or a trip to Bali.

Everyone who can crawl and walk comes here, and there is something going on everywhere you turn in Melbu during those nine days. Sommer-Melbu has become an institution, where the Nordland Academy of Arts and Sciences stands as a hub, with partners and supporters from high and low.

Museum Nord, and Melbo Manor are of course involved, and there are several traditional events that take place at the manor every single year.

This year, as last year, we start up on a friday. Thomas Gundersen gives a lecture on the historic grouse hunt in Melbu, when English travellers came up here to what they called Grouse island. Don’t miss the lecture at the manor on Friday 03 July at 20.00 “From adventure to predatory operation – The English grouse hunt on Hadseløya”.

On Sunday 05 July 12.00-14.00, the traditional Garden Party at Melbo Manor will take place.

Monday 06 July at 08.30 it is time for “Morning coffee at the main farm” A collaboration with the Local Environment Garden at Melbu. There will be coffee and garden talk and a good atmosphere.

On Tuesday 07 July at 18.30, the Friends of Melbo Manor invite you into the Manor at a Summer Meeting. There, Christian Frederiksen’s great-grandson, Kaare Frydenberg, will talk about the farm and about the work of Melbo Manor’s Friends. Afterwards, the Hadsel String Orchestra will play, and finally Gjermund Andreassen will talk about Christian Frederiksen’s role in establishing the head office for the Hurtigruten in Stokmarknes and not in Bergen.

On Thursday 09 July at 11.00-14.00 it is finally time for the traditional family day at Melbo Manor. Lots of activities for children throughout the morning!
