On Sunday, SKREI and the Lofoten Museum welcomed guests to a garden walk with the theme “How to take care of and create new plants in your own garden”. The event gathered many garden-interested participants, and with glorious weather conditions, everything was in place for an inspiring afternoon in the historic surroundings of the Manor House in Storvågan.

It was especially nice to see that the event brought together participants of all ages, from kindergarten age to experienced hobby gardeners. The large age range contributed to the exchange of knowledge and good conversations, and the joy of gardening turned out to engage both young and old.
Gardeners Judith van Koesveld from the Lofoten Museum and Gro Rundfloen from Melbo Manor led the participants through the beautiful perennial garden by the Manor House. Along the way, they shared experiences and practical advice on the care of perennials, the propagation of plants and how different plants can thrive best in northern Norwegian gardens.
The participants learned about the garden’s many plant species and about how several of the perennials have been part of the garden environment in Lofoten for generations. Practical methods for dividing and propagating cuttings were also shown, to the great interest of the attendees.
The good turnout created a pleasant setting for the event, and many took the opportunity to ask questions, exchange experiences and get inspiration for their own garden. Several also took cuttings home with them, so that the knowledge from the day can be put to use in practice.
The Lofoten Museum thanks everyone who participated in the garden walk. With sunshine, flowery surroundings and engaged visitors, the event was a great celebration of the joy of gardening, knowledge sharing and cultural history.

If you did not have the opportunity to participate this day, there will be a new opportunity on 25.08.26 in the garden at Melbo Manor from 18:00-20:00. Welcome!
