Registration session at idyllic Korsnes

18 September 2026

This week, the collection team has been at Korsnes Museum in outer Tysfjord for the third registration session of the year. The participants were from all four departments in Museum Nord.

Korsnes Museum is located in an idyllic area with white beaches and lush countryside approx. 6 km from the ferry port at Bognes. The facility is an old communication centre; here there was a trading post, post office, telegraph and steamship call. The building environment dates from the 1700s to the 1900s.

Korsnes Museum today consists of Bårstua, a storehouse, the pier, the barn and the station, where there was a telegraph and post office. In the barn you can experience the photo exhibition “Eternal Moments” about the photographer Magdalene Norman from Korsnes.

The collection team was at Korsnes for a registration session in 2024 where the team focused on the objects and the boat collection on the pier. This time, the team worked divided between the four other buildings at Korsnes Museum: the station, the storehouse, the barn and the mortuary.

The artefact collection at Korsnes Museum has a wide range of objects, including boats and equipment related to fishing, agriculture, household utensils and the telegraph station.

This round of registration sessions at Korsnes this time consisted of both new registrations and photography of objects, and marking of already registered objects that needed new tags or marking on the object. There was also documentation of the museum’s buildings with a drone.
