The Lutefisk Festival at SKREI

Welcome to the Lutefisk Festival at SKREI!

Lutefisk has its origins in the Northeast Arctic codfish, which swims over 1000 km to Lofoten every year from the Barents Sea to spawn. Over the centuries, the fish has been dried and further processed as part of Norwegian food culture. And in the lutefisk, this history meets both raw material, craftsmanship, tradition and celebration.

In collaboration with the Lutefisk Festival and Classic Norway, we invite you to a three-course dinner in Museum Nord’s new grand venue Otolitten, in Restaurant SKREI. Here we serve a traditional lutefisk meal with storytelling and something good to drink – in surroundings where the history and importance of the cod are central. It was from this very place that stockfish really got a major role as a nation-builder.

In connection with the event, guests will also have the opportunity to visit the rest of SKREI. Here you can explore the cod from several perspectives and through different disciplines – from nature and sea to fisheries, culture, history and food. Get to know the relationship between the cod and humans through 10,000 years, and how this migrating fish has left deep traces in life, culture and society along the coast.

The Lutefisk Festival at SKREI is an opportunity to experience the story behind the raw material, meet the people and traditions that have shaped it, and gather around the dinner table to taste the result. We serve quality ingredients directly from Brødrene Andreassen, Værøy.
