Øksnes Museum
The beautiful Alsvåggården, a building with a history dating back at least 450 years. Enjoy a cup of coffee in historic surroundings. Exhibition in the main building every summer.
14 July 2026

Two Saturdays in July, Øksnes Museum is hosting lectures in the museum building, and a larger selection in the café.

On Saturday 11.7, Yngvar Gustavsen gave a lecture on how people have historically used the sea to travel to and from Øksnes.
He told the audience about boat use all the way back to the Stone Age, which we see in traces such as petroglyphs. We heard stories about different types of boats and functions over the years. Such as fishing, transporting mail, resources and passengers. Interesting stories were told about specific boats, routes and people. Such as our great storyteller Ottar, and about the boat Havgolla.
Finally, Yngvar talked about the Nordland boat Brusan, which currently sails towards Øksnes in the summer of 2026.

Many people went to the café after the lecture, where homemade lemon cake, waffles, coffee and tea were served.
Thank you to everyone who joined, and to Yngvar Gustavsen for an interesting and educational lecture!
On Saturday 18.7 we will be visited by Hilde Johanne Hansen, who will guide us on a “journey” to some of Øksnes’ many exciting legend and fairy tale places. Based on the exhibition “Did you hear that?” which you can experience at the museum this summer. Read more here!

The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday between 11 am and 4 pm until 16th of August.
