The museums and libraries in Ballangen, Kjøpsvik and Narvik invite you to a lecture tour with Arne Håkon Thomassen from the Sami Parliament!

Arne Håkon Thomassen from the Sami Parliament, Astrid Andreassen from Bø library and Julie Sæther at Bø Museum arranged a cultural heritage registration course this past weekend. The course lasted over two days.
On Friday we were gathered at the library where Arne Håkon talked about Sami history and archaeology. On Saturday we went on a trip to Røsnes and registered traces of coastal culture. Which is both Norwegian and Sami. The cultural monuments lie side by side and together form a cultural environment.
According to the Cultural Heritage Act, a cultural heritage is: … all traces of human activity in our physical environment, including localities associated with historical events, beliefs or traditions. Cultural environments are areas where cultural heritage is part of a larger whole or context.
Norwegian cultural monuments and monuments that are older than 1537 and Sami cultural monuments that are older than 1917 are automatically protected.
To see if you have registered cultural monuments near where you live, you can look at Cultural Heritage Search. Many thanks to Arne Håkon, Astrid and all the participants in the course for two educational and fun days.
